Keep the Memories, Ditch the Clutter

My parents are systematically trying to clean out their basement.  They were thrilled when Hubby and I moved into a bigger place (which meant I could take more of my stuff) and I on the other hand, not so thrilled.  So with each visit to there house, they have sent more boxes home with me.  When we went in June to pick up some furniture (i.e. we had a uhaul) my Dad pounced on the opportunity to fill it with boxes, much to my protest.

Turns out I was kind of a hoarder when I was younger.  As I looked through the boxes I started to understand why my parents wanted to get rid of this stuff.  One box was filled with letters and postcards, and it was a hard box to go through, there were letters and postcards from my Grandparents and I cried like a baby reading through them, I kept most of these, those are treasures and really don't take up too much room.  There are also boxes and boxes of artwork, sticker books (which I kept) and grade cards.  Turns out, I wasn't much of an artist when I was younger either.

Yep, that's how I used to spell my name

I really don't have the room for all of this stuff, and considering that I didn't know that I still had most of it,  I decided that I might be better to just get rid of it.  I decided to take photos of some of the things, so that if I was every nostalgic enough to miss it, at least I would have a picture of it.  I will tell you it felt pretty good to throw all this stuff out.  So, if you don't mind, let's stroll down memory lane a bit.

So I'm not sure if this is from High School or College, that I used them for both.

This is a Barbie Summer Shape Up poster, why would I have kept this?

Freddy Hal's Birthday Card, showed it to him, he was unimpressed.

Apparently, I was a crafty girl even back then.  Blocked out the phone number b/c my parents have had the same number for like 45 years or something like that.

Bumpers!

This is pretty neat, a little plate from When William, the Prince of Whales, was born, thinking this was my Grandma's.  I still have this.

The sad part of this is, that I still have boxes at my parents, but I'm sure they will continue to sneak them into my car when I leave after a visit.

Have a Great Sunday Night!

  1. Did you get rid of the Prince William plate? I was with her in London when he was born.
