How did everyone do last week? I did pretty good. I designed and ordered our Thanksgiving invitations, in preparation for getting them in the mail next week. I couldn't make the giant spider because I accidentally recycled all my newspaper last week, so that is still on the agenda. I've started my gift list and I'm actually making plans to start doing some shopping over the next couple of weeks.
Today's topic is getting your house in order. To me life is easier and better with a clean and organized house, I know I'm funny right? It's my goal to work on one room (or closet) a week until I accomplish this. In the meantime, my office has been overtaken with Holiday Prep. Now is a good time to go room by room and start making a list of items that you would like to get done before you have guest this holiday season, for example, inside of the windows and sills cleaned, dust the ceiling fans, and baseboards, etc..
While I was working on our bedroom last week I stumbled across what was left of the wrapping paper and Christmas cards from last year. It is apparent that I didn't do very well on shopping the after Christmas sales last year, so I started a list, please feel free to click on the link and download it to start your own.
| Sad, just sad. |
Part of my organizing, and I have to admit I stole this from my sister, is that I start a Rubbermaid tote around this time of year, and I as I come across things, and start to buy gifts I add to it, that way I will know where everything is when I go to look for it. I don't have much in here yet, but I have feeling there over next couple of weeks, there will be more in there.
One more important thing that you should do this week is make a calendar. Many of us make a calendar at the beginning of each month that we hang in the kitchen or office. Make one or the next three months and hang them together so at a quick glance you will know your availability at a glance. This was pretty easy to do, I printed the calendar pages from the internet, and 'mounted' them to scrapbook paper, then posted in my kitchen!
So what I'm going to do this week:
- Mail the Thanksgiving Invitations
- Start gathering (and maybe practicing) recipes for Thanksgiving
- Edit my Christmas card list (figure out how many I need)
- Work on my Holiday Wreath
- Start making the Thanksgiving decorations
- Go through my Christmas decorations and see what needs to be replaced
- Clean and Organize our guest bedroom
- Make a list of repairs/cleaning that needs to be done before we have guests
- Take a inventory of good sheets and goods towels before we have guests
