Like my spider? Spooky isn't he?
How did everyone do this week? I got my spider made, ordered my Thanksgiving invitations, and made a list of things that need to get done around the house (there is alot of window washing and dusting on that list), check out my list here (Holiday Help List). I also had a big craft weekend, hit up the my favorite JoAnn's and now my Christmas box looks like this.....
....told you I would fill it up. To be honest there is Halloween and Thanksgiving stuff in there too!
So this week is all about getting you ready for Halloween. Have you decorated yet? Over the last couple of weeks we have been working on getting our house decorated and I think it's ready. Now I just need to buy some candy, I totally refused to buy it earlier, because in my house buying Halloween candy early means buying it often.
Here are a couple of quick (and cheap) crafts to get your front porch ready for your little trick or treaters.
I got this idea from my October issue of Better Homes and Garden. They used felt to cover the vases, but I used some clearance tissue paper I found at Target ($0.68) there was more of it, so if I messed up, a do over wouldn't seem like such a waste. I found the vases at the dollar store, and the candles at Walmart, although I think they had some at the dollar store too.
These are simple, measure the tissue paper to fit the circumference of the vase, cut out some eyes and mouth, tape the tissue paper to the vase and set it out on your front porch.
Pretty fun to make.
Take a black trash bag, cut it in half, then cut down the end open. Next, ball up newspaper to make the 'head' - only stuff about 1/3 of the bag and then tie off the bag with either a twist tie, rubber band or ribbon. then stuff the 'body' with newspaper, and then tape the end closed.
Use some decorative paper to make some 'eyes' then cut the remaining bags in three strips of varies lengths and attach them as 'legs'
He is supposed to be hanging on our porch (he is just sitting now), but the wind has been terrible here for the past few days and I don't want him to become the neighbors Halloween decoration.
This is our front porch (as of now)
What to do this week (fun list this week!)
Go to a pumpkin patch and get some pumpkins, we have to carve them next week
- Decorate your house, the spookier the better
- Buy too much Halloween candy
