Upside Down Apple Spice Cake
Sometimes this time of year, the just feels cold to me. Like it needs a good warm up. In my opinion, nothing warms up the house like baking a cake.
This is a really easy one to put together.
I made mine in a cast iron skillet, but this could be make in a regular cake pan by melting the butter before adding it to the pan.
What you Need:
Spice Cake Mix
3 Apples, any kind, peeled, cored and sliced
1/2 cup of butter
1/2 cup of brown sugar
How you do it:
Preheat the oven based on the mix instructions.
Peel, Core and slice apples
Prepare the cake mix
Melt the butter in the cast iron skillet on the stove.
**Pro Tip: as the butter melts, use a spatula to spread some of the melted butter up the sides of the pan. This will help with removing the cake from the pan**
Add the brown sugar to to the butter and spread it out evenly in the pan.
Add the sliced apples, to the butter and brown sugar.
Let the apples cook for 2-3 minutes.
Pour the prepared cake mix on top of the apple mixture.
Bake according to the mix instructions, mine was 350 for 25 minutes.
Once the cake is done, let it cool for about 2 minutes.
Invert the cake onto a serving plate and let it cool.
Enjoy! It's really good, especially with alittle bit of whipped cream!
